The historical city centre is surrounded by parks from the three sides.

The J. K. Tyl Theatre

A permanent professional theatre ensemble has performed in Pilsen for the past 140 years but it was only at the turn of the 19th and 20th century that the Pilsen citizens got a respectable theatre building. The building of the Great Theatre (a main venue of the J. K. Tyl Theatre) is built in the Neo-Renaissance style with numerous sculptures and rich stucco decorations. Its remarkable curtain is the work of a prominent regional painter A. Němejc.

The Old Synagogue

Hidden behind the front line of houses, in the courtyard of Smetanovy Sady No. 5, the curious visitor can find the Old Synagogue. There used to be a Jewish school too – on the same site there is an unusual memorial of the holocaust victims.
