Rokycany Region
The Eastern part of the Pilsen Region is a gateway to the Brdy foothills. Its character is hilly with deep woods. The untouched nature of the sparsely populated area attracts mainly lovers of romantic scenery who can also admire the beauty of natural parks Horní Berounka (Upper Berounka River), Radeč, Trhoň or the Kornatice Brook. The GolfPark Plzeň and Darovanský dvůr (sports and relaxation complex) offer wonderful sporting experience and some of the most beautiful golf parks in Bohemia.
Towns and Villages
Rokycany
The first record dates back to 1110. It was given the royal town rights by the Emperor Rudolf II. in 1584. The historical town centre: church of Our Lady of the Snows, remnants of the municipal fortification, town hall designed by A. Barth and I. A. Palliardi, Renaissance and Baroque burgher houses, meat market designed by J. Urban, Baroque fountain from 1827, Baroque Marian column from 1770. Further places of interest: Museum of Dr. Bohuslav Horák, Military Historical Museum on the post WW II demarcation line, observatory.

Radnice
Little town at the western edge of the Křivoklát Upland first mentioned in 1336 when it was sold (together with Zbiroh, Týček, Mýto and Újezd) by John of Luxemburg to the Rožmberk Family, its owner for the next hundred years. In 1570, during the ownership of the Černín Family, it gained the town rights from Maxmilian II. A Baroque chateau in the square (J. Auguston – around 1730), the church of St. Wenceslas from 1720 (presumably J. Auguston), listed burgher houses in the square (No. 232 and 233), fountain with an Empire arch, Jewish ghetto with a synagogue, Calvary with a Baroque chapel of the Visitation of the Blessed Virgin Mary ( K. I. Dientzenhofer). A town with mining and glass-making tradition.

Zbiroh
A romantic summer resort situated at the boundary of Brdy hills and Křivoklát natural protected area. First mentioned in 1230, it gained the town rights from the Emperor Franz Joseph I. in 1897. A Neo-Renaissance chateau on the site of a former castle (preserved castle chapel with fresco decoration of the presbytery). The art nouveau painter Alfons Mucha used to live and work here. The church of St. Nicholas and the Museum of Josef Václav Sládek (poet) in the square.

Most of the small manors in the Rokycany Region are not open to public. Those of historical and architectural value include the Baroque manors in Hřešihlavy, Liblín, Mirošov and Zbiroh and the Empire manor in Březina.
Jewish Monuments
Radnice – Jewish ghetto with a synagogue (cultural monument)
One of the best preserved Jewish monuments in the entire region –a synagogue from 1781 - which was once the place of work of Rabbi Isaac Mayer Weise-Wise, the founder of American Reform Judaism. It is accessible upon request.

Museum of Dr. Bohuslav Horák, Rokycany
The museum was founded in 1905 as an ethnographic museum, specialized in ironworks and palaeontology. A unique collection of more than 80 000 fossils ranges among the largest and most important in the Czech Republic. It also focuses on the history, culture and nature of region from pre-history till the beginning of the 20th century. Exhibitions of fine arts and crafts, lectures, expositions. Detached branch – water iron-mill in Dobřív – old blacksmiths shop, living museum of ironmongery.

Military Historical Museum on the WW II Demarcation Line in Rokycany
Vehicles and weapons of war, munitions and equipment of the Czechoslovak Army. Outdoor exposition with more than 70 samples of army vehicles and artillery technology.

Dobřív
Listed industrial monument – still working water iron-mill on Padrťský Brook. First mentioned in 1505, used till 1956. Preserved blacksmiths equipment. The largest and most important monument of its kind in the Czech Republic. A detached branch of the Museum of Dr. Bohuslav Horák in Rokycany.

Places of Interest
Darová
A village 6 km (3,7 miles) south-west of Radnice with samples of folk architecture. A popular restored farm which became an agrotourist centre. A nameless brook valley with a small waterfall below the farm. One of the last few still working river ferries for cars and pedestrians operates on the Berounka River below the village.
Darovanský dvůr (Darová Farm)
The entire golf resort complex of Darovanský dvůr originated through a major reconstruction of a former farm dating back to the 17th century. Centre of agro-tourism. Canoe hire – on the Berounka River, hiking.
Golf Park Plzeň
Built in 2003 – 2004 at the north-east edge of Pilsen near the village Dýšiná. It boasts a technically demanding 18-hole golf course located amidst a sea of greenery and birch and alder groves lined by the Klabava River and the beautiful Ejpovice Lake.

Břasy – natural landmarks
„Bašta“ natural landmark (0,06 ha / 0, 15 acres) uncovered outcrop of a black coal seam. „Kateřina“ natural landmark (0,68 ha / 1,68 acres) about 20 m (65 feet) high and 70 m (230 feet) long, well preserved wall of a former black coal strip mine with outcrop of agglomerates and arcoses.
Ejpovice – recreation area
Flooded former iron-ore quarry – nowadays about 50 ha (123 acres) large Ejpovice Lake. Ejpovice cliffs – palaeontological natural landmark.
Biskoupky – natural landmark
Natural landmark (1,40 ha / 3,5 acres) - site of Carboniferous fossils
Horní Berounka – Upper Berounka River Natural Park
Křivoklátsko Protected Landscape Area
Protected landscape area (63 000 ha /155 676 acres) and a UNESCO biospherical reserve –includes part of the Zbiroh area.
Chlum – national protected area
National protected area „Chlumská stráň“ (150 ha / 370 acres) – steep slopes above the Berounka River with mixed scree growth and a habitation of the yew tree.
Zvoníčkovna – natural protected area
Natural protected area (8,67 ha / 21 acres) – mixed oak/hornbeam wood with rare flora
Kařezské rybníky (Kařez Lakes) – natural landmark
Natural landmark – a system of man-made lakes and wetland meadows between the villages Kařez and Kařízek which provides protection for the rookeries of water birds and for amphibian and reptile sanctuaries.
Kokotské rybníky (Kokoty Lakes)
Two nearly overgrown man-made lakes dating back to the 16th century and built on the site of a former village Kokoty abandoned during the Hussite Era (15th century). The circular interpretive trail starts at the terminus of bus No 52 in Bušovice or bus No. 53 in Dýšiná - Nová Huť. The trail is 10 km long and offers altogether 11 stops in the beautiful landscape of the Kokoty lakes. It features both natural and historical facts of interest.
Rokycanská stráň (Rokycany Slope) – natural landmark (20,01 ha / 50 acres))
Important geological site – Carboniferous slates, Ordovician Barrandian. Location of Paleozoic ocean fauna fossils (trilobites, coelenterates, cephalopods)
Skryje - Skryjská jezírka – (Skryje Lakes) natural protected area (59,50 ha /147 acres))
A part of the Zbirožský Brook valley - an area of great geomorphological and paleontological interest. A narrow gap between surrounding rock formations where important Cambrian fossils were found.
Pod starým hradem – (Below the Old Castle) – natural landmark
Natural landmark (0,93 ha /2,3 acres) deep erosion chasm below the ruin of a medieval fortress. Finding place of trilobites and brachiopods.
Žďár (Žďár Hill) – natural protected area
Protected area of growth on the rocky top and scree slopes (20,5 ha /50 acres), stone walls of a Slavonic fortified settlement from the Halstadt Period (750 – 450 B.C.)
