November Events You Shouldn´t Miss in Pilsen

Autumn in Pilsen is fulll of experiences.

  • Bonjour Pilsen (November 2nd – 18th)

In November the festival of French culture Bonjour Pilsen will bring the atmosphere of France to Pilsen. The events of the multi-genre cultural programme of the festival will take place directly in the Alliance Française de Pilsen. You have a great opportunity to participate in a culinary course, French-style breakfast or broadcasting of various French films. In the cultural centre called Moving Station you can enjoy the spirit of a French market or acrobatic performances. Le Frenchie Cafe will host the 30th French conversation meeting called Speak Dating where you can improve or practice your French.

  • Beer Tapping School (November 2nd and 16th)

If you want to learn how to tap beer properly and to master the whole art of beer tapping, take part in the three-hour course directly in the Pilsner Urquell Brewery. Places must be booked in advance at reservations@asahibeer.cz.

  • Pilsen Design Week (November 12th – 18th)

Come and discover design in the most common things during the exhibition and sale event of contemporary design within the Pilsen Design Week. Rich accompanying programme offers themed lectures, discussions, workshops, exhibitions and conferences. At the weekend, design lovers can look forward to a sale design show. For example, during the show you can buy jewellery, accessories, clothing for children as well as adults, furniture, products and objects made of paper or cosmetics. The sale show and the accompanying programme of the Design Week will take place in DEPO2015 and in other locations in Pilsen. Tickets can be bought on the spot or in advance.

  • Musketeers in Pilsen (November 16th – 18th)

At this weekend, Pilsen will commemorate the 400th anniversary of its defence against the army of General Arnost Mansfeld. The course of the event will be brought closer to the spectators by its reconstruction in the Mill Race in the area of Krizikovy sady.  Visitors of the event can look forward to conquering of Drevena Street, surrendering in the Republic Square, or a field battle on the bank of the Radbuza River. Admission fee to all performances is free of charge.

MARKETS

  • St. Martin’s Market (November 3rd – 11th) 

The traditional St.Martin’s Market in the Republic Square will open the upcoming advent period in the city and bring special festive atmosphere. You can look forward to stands offering various home-made products, tasting sausages and cheese, “trdelnik” or hot wine.

  • Christmas Market (November 24th – December 23rd)

Every day, from 9am to 7pm, the Republic Square will be surrounded by the festive atmosphere of Christmas, smell of Christmas sweets, gingerbread and hot wine. Traditional Christmas Market also offers handcraft demonstrations, a live nativity scene with animals, or Christmas music programme full of carols.

  • Farmers’ Market (November 3rd, 10th, 17th and 24th)

You will experience the right atmosphere of a Saturday morning in the traditional Farmers Market in the Republic Square. The market offers high-quality, authentic and local food. You can look forward to fresh vegetables and fruits, dairy and meat products, pastries and much more. This is a great chance to get ready for the Christmas feast in advance.

EXHIBITIONS

  • Guided Tours of the Loos Interiors

Take a tour of the architecturally unique apartment interiors created by Adolf Loos which provide an interesting view of the way the rich Pilsen Jewish community lived in the period before the Second World War. You can choose to visit the Brummel House or the apartments of the Kraus and Vogel Family. The guided tours take place every Friday and Saturday. Tickets for the guided tours must be purchased in advance in the Tourist Information Centre or at www.adolfloosplzen.cz

  • Vilem Heckel (October 4th – January 27th, 2019)

The Museum of West Bohemia in Pilsen commemorates the 100th anniversary of the birth of Pilsen-born photographer Vilem Heckel with a retrospective exhibition of his work. The exhibition brings closer distant peaks and forgotten corners of the world to its wide audience. Visitors of the exhibition can see the pictures not only of all of these areas of his activities but they also have the opportunity to watch his life journey through his family photos and exhibition of his personal belongings. 

  • 100py in DEPO (until December 9th)

Interactive and experience exhibition 100Ppy: One hundred years seen by the eyes of five generations will guide you through the fundamental historical events of the past century. Through several generations of the fictive Nemec family you get the opportunity to experience both their personal dilemmas as well as crucial historical events.The exhibition will be in DEPO2015 only until 9th December.
