Autumn Events You Should´t Miss in Pilsen

Event the autumn in Pilsne is full of nice events.

AUTUMN EVENTS

  • Pilsen Busking Fest (October 2nd – 5th)

The historical centre gets alive with the festival of street art each October. Small as well as larger stages can be found on streets around the central Republic Square featuring dozens of foreign and Czech buskers. You may enjoy concerts, new circus, acrobatics, theatre, live statues or street dance.

  • Pilsner Fest (October 5th)

The traditional October celebrations of brewing the very first batch of world-famous lager Pilsner Urquell offer a multi-genre music show in the brewery as well as at the Republic Square in the city centre. You may visit concerts of Mady Rabycad, Michal Hrůza and its band, Iné Kafé or Lake Malawi. You will also get a chance to look inside the brewery on special Pilsner Fest tours.

  • African Market (October 6th)

Mangos, pineapples, durians, jackfruit, drake fruit or a drink made from sugar cane? The cultural centre DEPO2015 will host the African market. Between 10 am and 4 pm you will feel there a nice smell of exotic spices, cacao and other delicacies which are not easy to buy in the Czech Republic.

  • KUK Festival (October 11th -15th)

The DEPO2015 will host KUK Festival devoted to young visitors. It offers an original concept of performances for children between 10 months and 3 years old, motion workshops, maze, toddler playground and a chill-out space.

  • Festival of Dolls (October 12th – 13th)

You may also attend an uncommon exhibition of collections of dolls of all kinds in the JAS cultural centre in Slovany. You will see artistic, antique and precious dolls as well as prams from top collectors there.

  • DAS FILMFEST Pilsen (October 16th – 18th)

The lovers of German language will appreciate the DAS FILMFEST taking place in the DEPO2015 in the middle of October. You will see a wide collection of current movies made in German, Austria and Switzerland ranking from quality mainstream and documentary to films which have been successful at international film festivals.

  • Clean Pilsen Festival (October 26th)

After the success of Industry Open Festival the municipal refuse collection company Čistá Plzeň will host another event for public.  You may observe refuse collection vehicles, learn how to sort out litter properly or enjoy recycled playground at the company premises in 23 Edvard Beneš Street. The festival programme starts at 10 am, the entrance is free.

  • DEPO Street Food Market (October 28th)

The popular festival of street food will take place in DEPO2015. The traditional street food market will offer delicacies from cuisines from all over the world. You may choose from offers of more than 30 street food stands and food-trucks which are ready to let you indulge your tummy by delicious food and drinks. The entrance is free.

  • Pilsen celebrations of the foundation of the Czechoslovakia (October 28th)

The majority of historical monuments and tourist sights are free to access or for a symbolic price of 28 CZK during the bank holiday celebrating the foundation of independent Czechoslovakia in 1918. The all-day programme invites for guided tours, excursions, garden visits, public transportation historical vehicle rides, festival of street food in the DEPO2015 and sport activates. The evening is devoted to a paper lantern march culminating by fireworks in Czech colours. 

  • Pilsen Design Week (November 15th - 17th)

You will be able to find design features in the most ordinary objects at the contemporary design expo and market during Pilsen Design Week. Its rich programme contains thematic lectures, discussions, workshops, exhibitions and a conference. During the weekend, all the design fans will appreciate the design market. The event of Pilsen Design Week takes place in the DEPO2015 and other spots in Pilsen. You do not need to buy tickets in advance.

MARKETS

  • Farmers’ Market (every Saturday)

Every Saturday from 8 am, the farmers’ market takes place in the city centre directly on the Republic Square. You can shop for seasonal vegetables, fresh cheese, meat, pastries and marmalades from local producers and farmers, or just sit down and enjoy high-quality coffee and have a bite of something delicious.

  • Havel´s Market (October 10th - 16th)

You will definitely enjoy the autumn atmosphere at the Havel´s Market. There you may taste traditional Czech trdelnik, first mulled wine, mead and delicious cheeses and charcuterie.  You will see traditional craftsmen such as coopers, blacksmiths and potters or have an opportunity to buy Christmas presents in advance.

  • Martin’s Market (November 2th - 11th)

In the Czech Republic it is said that on the 11th of November, Saint Martin arrives on a white horse and brings the first snow. At that time, the first young, the so-called St. Martin's wine, also appears. Restaurants offer special Saint Martin’s menus which are dominated by the St. Martin's goose. Traditional St. Martin's Market takes place in the Republic Square.

  • Christmas Market (November 23rd - December 23rd)

The Pilsen Christmas Market offers romantic advent atmosphere smelling by Christmas sweets, gingerbread and hot wine with rich cultural programme, a live nativity scene with animals and Christmas music programme full of carols.

EXHIBITIONS

  • Guided Tours of the Loos Interiors (every Friday, Saturday and Sunday)

Take a tour of the architecturally unique apartment interiors created by Adolf Loos. You can choose to visit the Brummel House or the apartments of the Kraus and Vogel Family. The guided tours take place every Friday and Saturday, in October also on Sundays.  Tickets for the guided tours must be purchased in advance in the Tourist Information Centre or at www.adolfloosplzen.cz.

  • Studio Najbrt Basics (until November 3rd)

The Gallery of West Bohemia in Pilsen prepared an autumn exhibition devoted to the work of Czech leading graphic designer Aleš Najbrt and his studio. The exhibition present his key works since the beginning of 1980s in a unique way – printed on white T-shirts.
