The Festival of Light will Illuminate the Radbuza Embankment

If you search for another interesting opportunity to spend a weekend in the city of Pilsen – European Capital of Culture 2015 you should visit the Festival of Light. Ten of artistic light installations will illuminate the Radbuza embankment on Friday, February 20th and on Saturday, February 21st between two industrial areas: the hall of the former public transport depot and the area of the Pilsner Urquell Brewery.  The light installations will be introduced by their authors, prominent Czech artists, such as David Černý, Vladimír 518, Rony Plesl and Jakub Nepraš. Moreover, there will be the light installations created by artists from Japan, Ireland, Germany, France and Latvia.  

  • And what can you look forward to?

The statue by David Černý called Speederman will be installed directly in the Café Papírna. You will find a piece of a Japanese artist called Shadows in the area of DEPO 2015.  Futher light installations will be located under the Millennium Bridge. When walking along the river you should not miss the visit to the prayer room of the Koranda´s Choir which will be illuminated by the light installation by Rony Plesl created from 35 of six-metre-long tubes made of green uranium glass.  The New-Renaissance building of the Museum of West Bohemia will be changed by the video mapping of the artists from Strasbourg. In the subway in Tyršova Street there will be located an audio-visual project SPAM which was created by Vladimír 518, one of the most significant representatives of the Czech hip-hop scene.  The installation created from hundreds of recycled PET bottles illuminated by miniature LED light bulbs will bring light to the area of river bank close to the Štruncovy sady. On the courtyard of the Pilsen Urquell Brewery you can find a lively lighting cloud created by thousands of old light bulbs. The last piece of art will belocated directly in the brewery cellars.

You can enjoy the programme on all mentioned places between 6p.m. and 12p.m. The evening walk along the biggest river in Pilsen can be commenced or concluded by small refreshment, a hot beverage in the area of City Swimming Pool which will be illuminated not only by lanterns, but also by candles and fire torches.

Video mapping has already amazed visitors of Pilsen during the Opening ceremony of the European Capital of Culture
