What events should not be missed in Pilsen in 2020?

The Gambrinus Brewery Day changes the central republic Sqaure into a beer paardise.

Winter is almost over and a large part of 2020 ahead of us, so it's time to start planning and looking forward to trips! In Pilsen you can visit not only the historic city centre and the brewery, but you can also combine your trip with a visit to some of the cultural events on offer and experience Pilsen from the locals’ point of view. There is something for everyone, for lovers of good food and beer, music as well as vintage cars. Take a look at our list of top events to choose from, whether you decide to come to Pilsen on your own, with friends or with the whole family. Admission to most events is free or for a symbolic fee.

  • Liberation Festival (1 - 6 May)

Pilsen was the only large Czech city liberated by Allies at the end of World War II. Pilsen traditionally commemorates the events of the end of the Second World War with the Liberation Festival. This year's programme celebrating the 75th anniversary promises to be a great experience. You can look forward to a vintage vehicles convoy, historical military camps and cultural events.

  • Fresh Festival (16 - 17 May)

The biggest food festival in the whole region can be found in Pilsen! Fresh Festival takes place just outside the city centre, in the park area behind the Plaza shopping mall. You can taste both traditional and modern Czech food and world cuisine, which you don’t usually cook at home. You can also sample beer from several local microbreweries. Tickets can be purchased on site.

  • DroneFest (May 30 - May 31)

Festival of increasingly popular drones can be visited in the newly built drone centre in Pilsen. The two-day drone festival and flying competitions will take place on a special indoor and outdoor playground. You will be able to buy drones and related equipment here, but also try them out yourself. Admission is free. DroneFest is one of the largest events of its kind in the world.

  • International Folklore Festival (10 - 14 June)

If you are going to Pilsen in mid-June, you will discover the whole world in one place. There is a traditional international festival of folklore, where folk groups from the Czech Republic and abroad dance and sing in the city centre all weekend. You can admire colourful costumes and folk music and dance. Come and see for yourselves that folklore is still alive! Admission is free.

  • Gambrinus Beer Day (19 - 20 June)

The celebration of Gambrinus beer is called the small Oktoberfest in Pilsen when the entire historic centre of the city is transformed into a beer garden. This year, we will celebrate the 151st anniversary of the foundation of the Gambrinus brewery. You can try the traditional Czech lager in a glass and listen to Czech bands. Admission is free.

  • Gems with the scent of gasoline (17 - 19 July)

Car lovers, watch out! A unique car show, Gems with the scent of gasoline, takes place at the DEPO2015, an industrial cultural space just outside the city centre. You can admire magnificent cars from private collections, veterans and the latest modern pieces. Tickets can be purchased on site.

  • Sun In Glass Beer Festival (18 – 19 September)

At the festival of microbreweries, Sun In Glass, you will taste the best of Czech beer production. Around 80 breweries will present their stalls here from Friday to Sunday and the beer is traditionally tasted from 0.1 l glasses. The festival takes place on the premises of the Purkmistr brewery in Pilsen-Černice, where you can even try what it’s like to bathe in beer. Admission is free.
